Good. Clean. Fair.

Slow Food Bluegrass is an all volunteer local chapter of Slow Food International. We seek to carry out the Slow Food mission of good, clean and fair food for all, which means a world in which all people can access and enjoy food that is good for them, good for those who grow it and good for the planet. Slow Food Bluegrass supports the activities and education of like-minded individuals, businesses and organizations.  Food is a part of our daily lives and is central to our culture and celebrations. We encourage the community to get involved with Slow Food by bringing good, clean and fair foods to their tables through events, community outreach and our school garden program.

The word good can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. For Slow Food, the idea of good means enjoying delicious food created with care from healthy plants and animals. The pleasures of good food can also help to build community and celebrate culture and regional diversity.

When we talk about clean food, we are talking about nutritious food that is as good for the planet as it is for our bodies. It is grown and harvested with methods that have a positive impact on our local ecosystems and promotes biodiversity.

We believe that food is a universal right. Food that is fair should be accessible to all, regardless of income, and produced by people who are treated with dignity and justly compensated for their labor.

The Slow Food Bluegrass School Garden Program awards grants to teachers who want to create a program around growing and cultivating food. Every year we award a number of schools and organizations with a $5000 grant to start your program.

We have a number of festivals to help us raise money for outreach and education. These flavorful events feature great chefs, farmers and or course, food. All events are free and open to the public!

Come together around the table and enjoy a nice meal or educational workshop. Every event is free and open to the public so bring a friend and don't forget to get on our mailing list!
