On June 28th almost 300 people came to celebrate good, clean, fair food in the incomparable surroundings that are Yew Dell Botanical Gardens. The dinner supported 14 local farms, farmers, cheese-makers, and a winery who produce high-quality and healthy local food and drinks. The dinner featured locally produced meats and produce, all expertly prepared by Kathy Cary of Lily’s Restaurant. And beyond the delicious fare, many of the farmers responsible for the food on the table attended. They’ll talk about their farms, their traditions, and their products.

The event received generous sponsorship support from the community both financial and in-kind resulting in over $15,000 raised to support food garden programming, children’s gardening programs, horticulture and botanical research.

Yew Dell’s commitment to Slow Food continues with our Slow and Ugly Tomato Contest August 21st from 2-4pm. Slow Food and local tomatoes just seem to go hand in had. In this session, Slow Food USA Southeast Governor and Brown-Forman chef, Mark Williams will lead a summer celebration of the queen of the veggie garden – the tomato! Bring your own entry for the Ugly Tomato Contest! Register here, $20 for members/$25 for non-members.
