Garlic Harvest Cook Off – June 27th

Join us for the inaugural Garlic Harvest Cook Off on Saturday, June 27th noon-4pm. This sustainably inspired event will be at the Resurfaced space located downtown behind the facades of 615-621 West Main Street in Downtown Louisville. Admission to the event will be FREE. Tastes will be sold for $2 each.

Eight local farmers will pair with eight local chefs to create a culinary explosion of garlic delight for all to taste and vote. A cash prize will be available to the winner of the two categories, Best Sweet ($500), and “Best Savory” ($500).  We need YOU to determine the winner! Winners will be selected by ballot voting amongst the attendees. Proceeds from the event will go towards Slow Food Bluegrass’ Garden Grant Program.

Participating Farm’s include: Barr Farms, Groce Family Farm, Rootbound Farm, Roots Underwood, Holden Farm, Louisville Grows, Field Day Family Farm, Salt River Garlic, and Lost Acres.

Heirloom Recipe Potluck & Cow Milking & Paneer Cheese Making Demonstration – June 8th


Join Slow Food Bluegrass for an Heirloom Recipe potluck.  Lakshmi Farm owner Prem Durham will go over the process of milking a cow, and will share two of her family heirloom recipes: making fresh paneer cheese and making dosas, thin Indian lentil crepes.  Bring your favorite heirloom recipe to share.

Slow Food Bluegrass 2014 School Garden Grant

Slow Food Bluegrass is very pleased to announce the Slow Food Bluegrass School Garden Grant. The Grant is a total of $5,000 distributed over 3 years to be used to support a school garden project in the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky. To be eligible for a Garden Grant, an applicant must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or nonprofit k-12 school that is developing a school garden project that will help children engage with fresh fruits and vegetables. Applications will be accepted from December 3, 2013 – March 1, 2014. Grant recipients will be announced on March 8, 2014. For more details, please download the application below:


Foxhollow Farm Corn Maize


Go on out to Foxhollow Farm’s family fun Corn Maize. Foxhollow Farm is an earth-friendly working farm located just 15 miles Northeast of Downtown Louisville. The Corn Maize is a fun adventure for all ages. Once you reach Foxhollow’s entrance you will feel like you have escaped the city life and entered a beautiful fall holiday. The Corn Maize is located down the tree-lined drive, right across from the Foxhollow Gardens. A friendly Foxhollow Farm family member will greet you as you come down the driveway and allow you to park nearby. There will be a path of pumpkins and corn stalks leading you to the entrance of the maze. There you can pay before you enter the maze and embark on your Corn Maize adventure. A simple trot through the 4 acre maze will take anywhere from 10-20 minutes, depending on speed of walkers and navigation of the corn maze.

The Maze is open October 3rd – 20th
Hours: Thursday through Sunday 1-6:30pm
Price: $3 per person, Babies Free
Average time to complete: 10-20 minutes
Please be sure to wear appropriate clothing and foot wear. Closed toe, hard soled shoes that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty are recommended.

Foxhollow Farm’s 6th annual Fall Festival is their biggest event of the year and they can’t wait to see you there!
